These intricate trials by Perkins Bacon were produced to determine the background engraving to be used on the forthcoming 1840 1d black and 2d blue. Very rare, some splitting in margin at left caused by the bevelled edge of the printing plate. Spec. DP9a. Cat £30,000.</p>
