Like many philatelists, he caught the collecting bug from his father who was a life long stamp collector focused primarily on King George VI Commonwealth stamps. The collection was started in the early 1980s with a focus on Nevis, following his honeymoon there with his wife. It was then gradually expanded to cover the whole of King George V Commonwealth. The Hay Morgan collection is now one of the most complete King George V Commonwealth collections ever assembled and contains almost every mint Commonwealth stamp issued during King George V’s reign including most of the major errors, many plate examples, important proofs, numerous sets and stamps in blocks, as well as some rare covers. 1913-19 ½d to 2½d, perf 14 and 15, selection on stock pages with a good range of Part I listed shades seen, plus ½d dull yellowish green horizon pair imperf between (but showing blind perfs), perf 14 ½d, 1d (2) and 1½d (2 - one with part imprint) imperf to interpanneau margin, and ½d, 1d and 2½d blocks of 4, the last from lower right corner with sheet number ‘91’, mixed cond but much is fine large part o.g.; also 1917 ½d on 1d block of 4 and 1922-24 perf 14 ½d (2), 1d (3) and 1½d, imperf. pair is ex Gibbs and Vesty.
