Footnote
Described as ‘Weymouth’ on the old Baldwin’s ticket, these coins have now been re-attributed. Previously the W was thought to stand for the Royalist mint at Weymouth, but it is now considered more likely that the mint was actually Worcester (see SCBI Brooker pp.xliii-xliv). There is a definite die link with the coins of Bristol as the reverse die, altered from 1643, was previously used at Bristol. All subsequent issues from this mint show crowned royal arms on the reverse, such as the following coin. 1950s Baldwin’s ticket, priced at £11/10/-, giving the provenances: Ex. J D Cuff Col. (Sotheby’s June 1854); Ex. A and E Wigan; Col. which was purchased en bloc by Rollin & Feuardent in 1872) Ex. J.F. Neck Col. (acquired by H. Webb c.1884); Ex. H Webb Col. (Sotheby’s July 1894) Ex. H Montagu Col. II, (Sotheby,13 November 1896).
