1903 (Jan 6) 4c photographic essay in red, affixed to sunk-mount card (80 x 87mm) with manuscript date at upper right and endorsed ‘Approved WHM’ (= Sir William Hepworth Mercer) at foot. A delightful item, very close to the issued design but with differently shaped figures of value and lettering and slightly altered portrait. Extremely rare and desirable.
