1939 (Jun) incoming cover from Great Britain (opened for display), addressed to Shanghai and franked by GB 1937-47 1½d red-brown, tied by London machine cancel, assessed postage due on receipt in China and affixed with 1932 20c postage due, tied by Shanghai cds and bilingual boxed ‘CANCELLED’ handstamp, redirected to Raffles Hotel and then Sea View Hotel, Singapore, taxed on each redirection with Malayan Postal Union 1936-38 1c, 4c and 10c postage dues then forwarded to the Singapore Dead Letter Office with two strikes of the scarce double oval ‘DEAD LETTER OFFICE / SINGAPORE’ datestamp (Proud type D2) before being returned to to London (25 AU 39).
