Description
1914-6 British Imperial Trans-Arctic Expedition, three letters from Shackleton to a Wellington solicitor. The first item a signed formal receipt acknowledging a loan of £50, bearing a New Zealand 2d dated 15.12.16 and initialled EHS; the second item a handwritten letter of the same date, thanking him for “standing by me when things were bad for me”; the third item a typed letter dated 5th March 1917, referring to a cheque enclosed to repay the debt plus interest - “I have now sold my ship, and want to keep my promise to pay the money back as soon as possible….. (I have) a vivid memory of your generosity." Folds and minor creasing but a splendid trio
