£480
Description
1945 6d blue-black and brown for each of the Dependencies, used on separate envelopes. Graham Land used with blue cancel (date unclear); South Georgia with 22 DE 49 CDS; South Orkneys with 22 FE 50 CDS (year inverted); South Shetlands with FE 17 50 CDS. Some minor creasing to the envelopes but an extremely rare group, locally addressed to Major Aldridge. SG A6a-D6a (unpriced in used condition)
Footnote
The blue-black vignette stamps were never officially sent to the colony - the handful of used examples known must have been sent out and used philatelically or 'by favour'. Major Aldridge evidently obtained the stamps from England and used them on self-addressed envelopes. He had been acting postmaster for five months in 1943, when Maude Carey was on leave
