Footnote
Certification no. 206438.64/84924452. It is believed that the Gothic Crown was never intended for issue in general circulation. Although it has now been voted as ‘Britain’s most beautiful silver coin’, it was probably issued in 1847 as a ‘trial piece’ to gauge public reaction to the proposed ‘Gothic Florin’ design which were issued from 1851 to 1887 after the one-year 1849 ‘Godless’ Florin.
