Hello and welcome to the sale catalogue for my coin collection which Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s have been so kind to put together on my behalf.&nbsp;I have been an avid collector of English coins since my earliest recollections. I started out the usual way by sorting through my mother’s change in the hopes of finding collectible pieces, pennies mostly – of course my definition of “collectible” was very different back then and was very loosely defined. However, around 40 years or so ago my career had progressed to the point where I could begin to afford to indulge my hobby in a more focused manner and so I began visiting coin shops, buying from fixed price mailing lists (remember this all started in the nineteen eighties!), attending trade shows and auctions in person and bidding in online auctions. Over time my interests evolved and they progressed to include both hammered and milled crowns, hammered and milled half crowns, copper pennies and then later, to the silver coinage of the English civil war’s Commonwealth period, when we were briefly a republic.&nbsp;It is now time for some of these pieces to find new homes in the hope that their new owners also enjoy the beauty and craftsmanship which English coins exhibit. Laureate bust right, elephant and castle beneath, Rev. Crowned cruciform shields, lion of Nassau in centre, plain angles, 14.19g/6h. (Bull 1050 [R4]; ESC 566; S. 3495). Good, the elephant and castle and date clear. The final instance of the elephant and castle mark, with all extant specimens in worn condition. Previously the second‐highest graded by NGC.
