Description
Double saltire stops, King crowned, facing, on ship, holding sword and shield, Rev. Lombardic C at the centre of floriated cross, terminals ending in lis, crown over lion over trefoil in each angle, within beaded and linear angles or eight arcs, fleurs in spandrels, 7.71g/1h. (N. 1235; S. 1504). Encapsulated and graded by PCGS as XF45. One of five known, a rare obverse die. Sold with accompanying ornate gilt presentation box with an inscription reading MEMORIAL OF THE FIRST JUBILEE, KING EDWARD III / Reigned from 1327‐1377 / In possession of GEORGE FRATER HEATON, Drysalter, Colourman, and Varnish Manufacturer, Manors Viaduct Varnish Works, Newcastle‐Upon‐Tyne. A unique chance to own an exceptional Edward III Noble with Victorian provenance.
