1883 (July 24) group of five (from an original set of six) colour trials prepared by De La Rue as a new colour scheme ('The Universal Colour Scale'), subsequently adopted for the 1886-93 wmk CA issue, comprising four examples of the ½d value, respectively in dull green (adopted), carmine (adopted for 1d), orange (adopted for 2d) and pale mauve (intended for 1s), and 3d in yellowish olive-green (adopted for 6d), each line perf 12, wmk CA (upright), part o.g. A couple of perf faults but a wonderful group of the highest rarity, ex Weldhen and Dale-Lichtenstein. (The sixth trial in this series was the ½d in grey (for the 3d value), of which there were two examples in the Bavington-Jones collection).
