Description
ROYALTY: 1910 (20 May) a wonderful and neatly displayed collection arranged on exhibition leaves of KEVII's funeral including picture postcard range, two superbly cancelled with Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace cds on the day of the funeral, another addressed to Austria sent registered and franked with 7d, selection of different tickets/passes with 'LYING-IN-STATE' at Buckingham Palace and Westminster Hall, 'FUNERAL PROCESSIONS' and 'FUNERAL' types and mainly with 'H.M.OFFICE OF WORKS' hs, range of letters, one from Sir Dighton Probyn (Keeper of the Privy Purse, who won a Victoria Cross in the Indian Mutiny) and two mourning envelopes, one with contents, Funeral Service Programme at Westminster Hall (May 17th, 1910), 'POST OFFICE TELEGRAPHS' form postmarked Parliament St from King George V's secretary, Sir Arthur Bigge, praising the Office of Works for their organisation of his beloved father's funeral; also picture postcard from Sandringham on 18th November (this was Black Friday when the Woman's Suffragette movement protested outside Parliament resulting in two fatalities and hundreds of arrests). A historically fascinating lot which would prove very difficult to repeat (49 items)
