1885 5d “Jubilee“ Essay. Very fine hand-painted example in green & claret with details of the design highlighted in Chinese white, executed on a piece of white card (82 x 117mm). Lettered “A“ and endorsed “PURPLE IN PLACE OF RED“, “Green duty / Head purple“ and “8 Annas“. A group of the rejected design were later considered for a proposed India issue in 1891. Unique.
