The exact use of these cancels is unknown, it is widely believed that they were used on telegraphs for journalist's match reports - in this case the MCC v Yorkshire MY.8-10.1899 (Yorkshire won by one wicket). A superb "sock on the nose" strike, an exceptional example of this rare Cricket ground cancellation. SG211.
