1840-1, three envelopes addressed to Lady Munro Adderly Hall, Shropshire, franked by 1d blacks, tied by neat red MCs, backstamped with Ambleside arrival d/s in blue, up to four margins, some faults otherwise an attractive trio. SG 2
The addressee Lady Munro was the daughter-in-law of solider and statesman Sir Thomas Munro KCB who served as Governor General of Madras from 1820 to 1827; during his time he introduced a Ryotwari system of land revenue collection and assessment, this system was very successful and continued into the twentieth century.
