1840 1d Black Plate 2. Very fine used four margin example lettered SJ neatly tied to entire by a crisp strike of the experimental London black MC with a T.P./Cornhill handstamp alongside. Addressed to Bloomsbury with a London datestamp on reverse for SP.16.1840. The trials for the use of black ink for cancelling stamps in London began in  August 1840 prior to it's authorised use countrywide in February 1841. Spec. AS15m..
