1896 Die proof selection on 3 pages including die proof in black on thick surfaced wove (37x33mm) of the "VAVAU" vignette for the 1897 Pictorial 5s value, showing guide cross above and further guidelines at left, with M/S date at upper left (Ex De la Rue archives, and illustrated on p.6324 of "The De la Rue Collection); 1d black and orange-vermilion (near issued colour), 3d black and yellow-green (issued colour), 4d black and grey, 2s black and blue (near issued colour) and 5s black and deep blue-green, the five bicoloured "pictorial" values for the 1897 set, each a stamp-size DIE PROOF on thin unwatermarked wove. A magnificent "set", the 2s and 5s particularly beautiful with wonderful clarity of impression, of the highest importance and rarity, being the first bicoloured pictorial stamps (recess-printed) ever produced by De La Rue, generally fine, a selection for the connoisseur (11)
