Description
1871-78 1d 'pale rose-red', litho printing, two imperforate sheets of 12 (3x4) from transfers 5 and 6 (29 April 1872 printing) printed se-tenant on a single piece of thin ungummed wove (211 x 134mm) with wide margins all round and between the two impressions. Trivial tones in the surrounds but very fresh colour. A spectacular and very rare item, demonstrating the original printing method (in fact four panes, although pairs, as here, are now the largest surviving multiples in private hands). Illustrated on p.61 (fig. 5.11) of the recent book by Borromeo and Freeland. Ex the Nissen & Parker archive. SG 15
