Description
1939 Royal Visit. A 9¼" x 6" silver salver with Birks Ellis mark and hallmark on reverse, weight 544g. A pattern of maple leaves makes the lip. On the base is engraved the Canadian Coat of Arms, and impressions of the three Royal Visit stamps, understood to have been made by the Master Dies for the stamps. The inscription reads 'Presented to H.R.H. The Princess Margaret Rose by the Government of Canada May.1939.June'. A unique, finely fashioned and pleasing object, acquired by the present owner at the Christie's sale of her effects (14 June 2006, Lot 322 - Hammer price £4,5000) and with Kensington Palace Certificate of Provenance in leatehr folder, signed by Edward Dolman (Chairman of Christie's) and Viscount Linley.
