1894 (AUG 15) registered 'Hawkins' cover from Apia to London (readdressed on arrival), franked at correct rate by 1886-1900 ½d blackish purple, perf 12x11½ and 1894-1900 5d dull vermilion, perf 11½x12, tied by purple type 4 Apia cds (first day of usage), in combination with USA 1890-93 3c violet (partially covered by New York registration label) and 10c blue-green both tied by San Francisco registered ovals. Various registration markings incl magenta 'REGISTERED/AUG 31 1894/SAN FRANCISCO, CAL' three-line ds (additionally tying the ½d) and red London '15 SP 94' oval ds on front, and black New York double oval ds and large 'R (in oval)/FEE PAID' on reverse.
