Description
1854 First Printing 4a blue and pale red horizontal pair, Head Die I and Frame Die I, positions 5-6, cut to shape at the sides. Margins clear save that the left stamp has the leftmost corners shaved or just cut. Both stamps show retouching, especially position 5. This pair is illustrated in Martin and Smithies (Plate 4) and described on page xii - 'a pair of fairly late appearance....' RPS Certificate (1928) as SG 21. Creased along the top and position 5 has a pinhole left of the first 'I' on INDIA. A very rare unused multiple. SG 18, £44000 as two unused singles
