The early classic issues are very well represented, with a fine range of Bull’s Eyes including complete sets and multiples, such as the clear impression set (lot 2076) and the impressive 90r horizontal pair (lot 2078). These are complemented by an excellent showing of Slanting Figures, as well as Upright and Vertical Numerals. The section is further enhanced by a notable selection of Zeppelin and early airmail material, including rare airmail covers and destination mail (lots 2140–2152), and an appealing range of proofs, essays and specialised accumulations. Transjordan 1924 (Sept - Nov) ‘Government of the Arab East 1342’ three-line black overprint on ½pi deep rose-red, a used horizontal pair. This Hejaz issue was overprinted in error, the scarlet shade was used for the overprint, a mint example included for comparison. A very fine used pair with large part Amman datestamp. With letter from National Philatelic Society to E Farah who states the item to be genuine and signs letter. Listed in SG but not priced.
