E. Whicker, the soldier sending the letter, backstamped 'FPO 13' (5 Sep) & 'SABATHU' arrival (23 Sep) with the adhesive in very fine condition.  This cover is a newly discovered rarity and a star item of the British Occupation of Baghdad. Not recorded by Khalastchy (2017), this is just the fourth known cover to India, the third known cover bearing SG 5, and the only known ‘Active Service’ envelope of this type.

Typical perfs and centring (from the left column of a pane), still fine and much rarer than the catalogue price might suggest. Certainly the first example we have offered for many decades.
