E. Whicker, the soldier sending the letter, backstamped 'FPO 13' (5 Sep) & 'SABATHU' arrival (23 Sep) with the adhesive in very fine condition. This cover is a newly discovered rarity and a star item of the British Occupation of Baghdad. Not recorded by Khalastchy (2017), this is just the fourth known cover to India, the third known cover bearing SG 5, and the only known ‘Active Service’ envelope of this type.

1917 (10 Sep) local cover addressed to 'I de Sa Esq/ Civil Treasury', bearing ½a on 10pa green (G.P.O.), star and date within crescent, tied by small part Type 1 'BAGHDAD' cds ( dated ‘? Sep 17’) with type 2 censor mark in red above address, reverse side showing 'BAGHDAD' arrival cds dated 10 Sep in type similar to Type 2. Opened a little roughly at left edge and the envelope with creasing (well clear of adhesive), still an interesting and potentially commercial franking as it is very unusual to find an arrival marking on the reverse of covers from the Occupation. &nbsp;SG 13 (cat £475 off cover)
