E. Whicker, the soldier sending the letter, backstamped 'FPO 13' (5 Sep) & 'SABATHU' arrival (23 Sep) with the adhesive in very fine condition. This cover is a newly discovered rarity and a star item of the British Occupation of Baghdad. Not recorded by Khalastchy (2017), this is just the fourth known cover to India, the third known cover bearing SG 5, and the only known ‘Active Service’ envelope of this type.

1917 2a on 1pi black and violet 'POSTAL JUBILEE', perf 13½, BLOCK OF FOUR fresh UNMOUNTED o.g. Some perf separation between stamps one and three. Just 1339 were issued (both perfs), and this just the fourth known block of four, one of which is in the Royal Philatelic Collection, another housed in the Imperial War Museum, the other a corner marginal block ex Bute, meaning this is one of two known blocks of four in private hands.
