E. Whicker, the soldier sending the letter, backstamped 'FPO 13' (5 Sep) & 'SABATHU' arrival (23 Sep) with the adhesive in very fine condition. This cover is a newly discovered rarity and a star item of the British Occupation of Baghdad. Not recorded by Khalastchy (2017), this is just the fourth known cover to India, the third known cover bearing SG 5, and the only known ‘Active Service’ envelope of this type.

1917 (7 Sept) Local cover from the JNG Gibbons correspondence bearing 1a on 20pa rose (type 23), star and date within crescent, tied by type 5 ‘F.P.O. 55’ cds, with type 1 censor mark in black below address, reverse without markings. A neat and attractive franking, and rare with just 249 issued of this stamp, this just the fifth cover known. SG 15, (cat &nbsp;£1,700 off cover)
