E. Whicker, the soldier sending the letter, backstamped 'FPO 13' (5 Sep) & 'SABATHU' arrival (23 Sep) with the adhesive in very fine condition. This cover is a newly discovered rarity and a star item of the British Occupation of Baghdad. Not recorded by Khalastchy (2017), this is just the fourth known cover to India, the third known cover bearing SG 5, and the only known ‘Active Service’ envelope of this type.

1902-05 Wmk CA set of 12 to 3s, in matching upper marginal blocks of 4 from left pane R1-2/2-4, with distinctive 'notch' in jubilee line above R1/3, and showing variety 'slotted frame' on upper right stamp (R1/4), o.g. (lower pairs unmounted). Some values with small gum stains from hingeing, but very fine appearance with fresh colours. An extraordinary and unrepeatable set of matched positional blocks with this variety, which is very clear on the original 1902 values to 1s and 2s, but detectable only under magnification on the 1905 1s6d, 2s6d, 3s, perhaps as a result of a repair to the plate. Only 50 sheets each printed of the 1s and 2s, 98 sheets of 4d, 100 sheets of 6d. SG 45-56&nbsp;
