E. Whicker, the soldier sending the letter, backstamped 'FPO 13' (5 Sep) & 'SABATHU' arrival (23 Sep) with the adhesive in very fine condition.  This cover is a newly discovered rarity and a star item of the British Occupation of Baghdad. Not recorded by Khalastchy (2017), this is just the fourth known cover to India, the third known cover bearing SG 5, and the only known ‘Active Service’ envelope of this type.

1863-76 Perf 10 SET OF EIGHT VALUES to 48c, all on medium paper (except 12 on thin paper), the 1c without gum (but superb appearance), otherwise fine to very fine mint part to large part o.g. with perfs and centring well above average for this issue. A delightful set with fresh colours, extremely difficult to assemble in such nice quality, and a remarkable opportunity which is unlikely to recur. SG 85-105 [The 8c in brownish pink, the 24c in bluish green, while the 6c (dull blue) has part papermarker's wmk.]
