Auction: 16 April 2025 at 10:30 BST
Estimate: £2,000 - £2,500
Description
1924-29 "Admiral" ½d blue-green, a left marginal interpane horizontal strip of 11 from the junction of the left and right panes, perforated at left and right edges only (and to left of horizontal gutter), leaving stamps 1-10 as a HORIZONTAL STRIP OF TEN ERROR IMPERFORATE BETWEEN. Reinforcement at the gutter otherwise mint, unmounted o.g. Odd minor traces of perf toning affecting a few stamps, mentioned for accuracy, still very fresh appearance, and a spectacular multiple of great rarity. SG 1ca, £6500.
Footnote
Apparently two such sheets (= 24 strips) originally existed, but it is clear that most must have been cut up (to produce pairs and lesser multiples "imperforate vertically" (= SG 1c), and not more than six full strips of ten are known to have survived intact.
[See Peetoom pp. 76-7, nos. 3-4, but his "no. 3" (a strip of ten additionally imperf at left margin, ex Kaplan) is surely a phantom listing, as it can be detected from the poor illustration that (misplaced) perfs WERE in fact present at the left margin, despite Peetoom's claim to the contrary.]
