1877-80 pair of covers from the same correspondent addressed to Scotland, paying the reduced UPU rate of 32c when Ceylon joined on 1st April 1877. One envelope franked by 32c slate tied by duplex and Lindoola cds for MY 10 1878, endorsed ‘Overland First Opportunity’ backstamped by Galle d/s for MY 12 and transit and arrival marks, original contents included with the cover, discussing among other things the amorous desires of their cousin to his commanding officer's wife! Second cover franked by 4c grey and 16c pale violet, tied by ‘35' duplex and Fort Macdonald cds for Oc 25 80, endorsed ‘By the P.O. Steamer ’'Peshawar''', generally fine condition, an interesting pair.
