1852-57 3d red 'Beaver' on machine-made thick paper, an upper marginal example (small part imprint) with very large margins elsewhere (plated as Pane B, pos.4), tied to cover by by 'ST THOMAS / U.C' cds dated 'NOV 23 18' (year date removed, but probably 1858) with very fine 'AYLMER / U.C' udc arrival backstamp (m/s date 'Nov 23' inserted). Slight cover faults (mainly on reverse), nevertheless an extraordinary showpiece franking of superb appearance, and very rare thus. SG 18
