1867 (DE 2) cover from Ascension to Devonport (with message "We wish you a merry Xmas" on inside of flap), correctly endorsed by sender "From J Clark Boiler Maker Ascension" and countersigned "John Hawkins for Com Officer", franked at 1d concessionary rate by GB 1864-79 1d rose-red, Plate 97 (KJ) tied on arrival by Devonport "250" numeral with light but legible type Z2 (20mm, code A) despatch cds alongside. Backstamped with "CAPE-PACKET / DEVONPORT" cds, dated "DE 22 1867". Central sealed tear at top (not affecting stamp or Ascension cds) and some minor soiling, still a neat and rare usage. The only Ascension cover bearing a 1d plate 97 known to us. BPA Certificate (2018)
