POSTAL HISTORY: Covers from a FIDS expedition member Gordon Artz, a meteorologist, based at Halley Bay during 1959. 4 are cancelled with the Int’l Geophysical Year Expedition cds 12 JAN 1959, and 5 with the Base Z Halley Bay cds 13 JA 59, which includes a first day of usage of the ship definitive issue. Also included are 2 letters from Artz describing life on board the MV Tottan on his journey south, a photo of Artz and a book on Halley Bay 1959. Also 4 covers from South Africa, 1 from Gough Island, 1 from Tristan Da Cunha 13 AP 60, 1 from FID Shackleton base are also present. Fair to fine. (16)
