1933 registered envelope to Buenos Aires franked by Centenary 1s, tied by Port Stanley CDS of 1 JU 33. Endorsed on flap ‘After 4 days return to 9 Mersey Road, Walthamstow, London E17’. Markings include Argentine registration, straight-line NON RECLAME on front and on the reverse, Buenos Aires CDSs of 31 JUL and manuscript endorsements of 21.7.33 and 21.8.33, with Officially Sealed label applied at London. This cover seems to have been sent as an experiment to see how the Argentine Post Office would handle it. The issue was not recognised by the Argentine authorities; covers bearing stamps from it were normally treated as unpaid. Evidently the Post Office decided not to charge Postage Due, since there was no-one at hand to collect it from, and eventually sent it on to London without charge after over a month's delay
