Wreck Mail: 1894 cover to Waverley, New Zealand, franked by Queensland 2d blue, tied by Brisbane/Queensland duplex for OC 18 94, part of a mail carried by the Union Steamship vessel Wairarapa, which was wrecked and sank off Great Barrier Island on 29 Oct 1894 with the loss of 120 passengers, the cover bears a fair strike 'Saved from the wreck of the/"WAIRARAPA",' cachet in blue, reverse bears Auckland transit cds for 10 Nov and Waverly arrival for 13 Nov, some imperfections as might be expected, of the mail recovered only fifty pieces originated in Queensland
