<p>POSTAL HISTORY: 1898 (18 February) cover addressed to Major Sandbach at Merowi from Douglas Haig in Wadi Halfa bearing Egypt 5m adhesive overprinted ‘SOUDAN’ cancelled by Halfa cds. with original letter explaining that "I saw the Sirdar before he left for railhead and he told me thay he wanted me to take over a Squadron now at Debbeh which hitherto had been commanded by a native Office<i>r</i>". A fine early letter from Douglas Haig as a Cavalry Captain. SG 5</p>
