<p>1873-75 three envelopes and two fronts to County Cork, each franked 1d (SG43) and with superb pen and ink drawings of a political nature, including Disraeli (as an Elephant) defeating Gladstone, Gladstone's public health act, Britain and Russia (as a bear), Permissions bill of 1873, Disraeli's repeal of Gladstone's criminal law amendment act. A fine group. Probably the most famous group of hand illustrated envelopes in existence; Four illustrated in "British Pictorial Envelopes of the 19th Century" (pages 170-173); ex Bodily, ex Ramsay (5/9/18 Auction Lot # 21)</p>
