Description
1885 “Jubilee” die proofs for the accepted head on solid ground (6), printed in black on white glazed card (92x60mm), two dated for '2 JUL 85' and endorsed ‘BEFORE HARDENING’ with m/s ‘288’ and ‘289’ respectively for their Dies, both surrounded by a black ring with two white horizontal slots, the latter head with very thin line surrounding it, a Die 288 undated proof with a large black circle (38mm diameter) surrounding the head, another dated ‘8 MAY. 85’ in an unusual style with small black circle (12mm diameter) surrounding the head, an undated proof as the first, and a Die 289 proof on buff card (42x60mm) with m/s ‘289 for white ground’. A very rare and fine group, each ascribed to Wiseman rarity M. For SG 197/214.
