Stamps & Covers of Great Britain | S25019
Auction: 16 October 2025 from 10:00 BST
Description
1852 cover to Cavendish Square London, bearing a hand-illustrated impression of a stamp, traced from the ‘Bun Head’ Wyon coin effigy (same dimensions as an old penny) executed in ink and Indian red watercolour wash, showing a ‘73’ London numeral and Brompton Road 1d PAID h/s in blue, (presumably paying postage over the counter) with hexagonal P.D. mark for JY 22 and backstamped by same mark, some stains, otherwise fine, an intriguing and attractive item. Offered with a ‘Bun Head’ Penny (dated 1892) for comparison.
