1840 2d Mulready Envelope (Forme 1, Stereo a197). Very fine used example neatly cancelled by a crisp red MC with a T.P/Cornhill St. receiving office handstamp alongside. Sent originally from London to Rolvenden, Kent then redirected back to Covent Garden,London and endorsed "to pay 1" so either overpaid originally or with some of the contents removed. Backstamped in London and Lamberhurst for MY.26-27.1840. A very attractive "May Date" Mulready, the only example recorded for the 26th. Ex. Compton & "Mayflower".
