c1912 1d Hand drawn essay. Very fine example of a rejected “Lion Couchant“ design, beautifully executed in pen and ink on soft white card (87 x 110mm) with a grey wash to add shading and a brownish tint to the decorative frame, the central vignette painted in dark grey-black ink around an outline to create a head. An extremely attractive and unique essay.
