Auction: 3 November 10:00 GMT
Description
1887-1900 Jubilee 4½d green and deep bright carmine, mint unmounted o.g. top marginal block of fifteen (mounted in the margin only), a couple of stamps with minor gum creasing otherwise fine and believed to be the largest surviving multiple. Wonderful deed bright colour. RPS Certificate (2025). SG206a
Footnote
The catalogue originally listed SG206a as “aniline” reflecting the carmine shade with bright pink reaction under UV lamp. This fluorescent carmine shade is well known and several complete panes exist, incorrectly described as “SG206a” on certificates from the 1950’s and 60’s. With the introduction of the SG Part 1 specialised catalogue, the listing was revised, and the rare deep bright carmine listed as SG206a, which should not be confused with the relatively common fluorescent carmine variety
