1885 ½a blue-green,1a brown-purple, 8a dull mauve & 1r slate , opt type 2, each showing the ERROR 'PUTTILLA', the three lower values matching right marginal from R.1/12 (with first 'T' over 'S'), the 1r the right stamp of a horizontal pair, large part o.g. A marvellous group of this controversial error, which emanated from a trial printing of four panes ('500' stamps) of each value made about October 1885, shortly before the main printing (Nov 1885) of SG O7. The error occurred twice in each pane (? R.1/1 and R.1/12), so that just eight examples existed of each value, but two of each are now in the Royal Collection, leaving a possible SIX in private hands. SG 7-12var &nbsp;
