Description
H. St John B. Philby correspondence exhibit collection from 1911, with letter when revenue assistant with the Indian Civil Service to his mother, 1915 incoming cover from his wife when at Basra with Bombay censorship, 1916 censored cover to his mother and signed by him as Assistant Political Officer, two further 1916 cover Opened Under Martial Law, 1917 censored cover which was started at the Khurma oasis in Nejd and is the only letter ever recorded to have transited through Hejaz from Nejd, the cover appears to have been hand-carried from Jeddah to Egypt where entered into the mail, two 1917 internal Mesopotamia, 1917 internal Indian franked Mesopotamia censored, 1918 cover from Riyadh to Kuwait, carried across the desert, 1922-23 Amman via Jerusalem to UK, 1926 incoming covers from UK to Port Sudan, later 1920s covers to Jeddah, two 1941 Internee Mail covers to Internment Camp after arrest in Karachi, 1946-48 covers to Cairo and Jeddah from his mother. a fascinating group of over 50 covers. also with a fine carved letter opener with his name carved within blade.
