1863 “Burdett Coutts” registered letter written by Rajah James Brooke, from Singapore to London via Marseilles, franked by India 1856-64 2a yellow-buff and 8a pale carmine (5) and tied by Type 7 Octagons, with m/s ‘Re'd/March 13 63' in blue at upper left, backstamped by faint Singapore cds and with a red crayon ‘4/11’ accountancy mark on obverse alongside red ‘PAID/LONDON’ h/s for 13 AP 63. A couple of light creases and typical signs of aging, still a scarce and attractive cover written by the first White Rajah.
