Description
1946-48 Maharaja Ravi Varma, Wmk type 27, 4p grey-green, 6p red-brown, 9p ultramarine, 2a black and 3a vermilion all in complete sheets of forty-eight (8x6) printer's sample sheets, with central block of four (or three) bearing ‘Sample Associated Printers’ rectangular h/s in violet (46x20mm), with the majority of the sheet not bearing the printer's handstamp (!) The 4p grey-green would therefore constitute 45 unused examples of the issued stamp (less the three bearing the printer's sample handstamp) with a notional catalogue value of £180,000! unused without gum as issued, sheets affected by long-term storage and ageing with odd creasing and perf separation, otherwise fine, a highly important and possibly unique group of sheets. SG 103, 104, 105, 107 & 108
By direct family descent, during the 1940s and 1950s, the seller’s father and grandfather owned and post Indian independence, worked within several Indian businesses, including The Associated Printers, Madras.
