Inland Revenue: 1869-78 $1 to $40 set of ten examples, large part o.g. but for $1-3 unused) each overprinted ‘SPECIMEN’ diagonally in red ($1, $16) of black, the former a block sans-serif font, the latter more ornate and seriffed, with neither type recorded by Samuel. Minor toning not affecting fine appearance, and 12c defective with tear at foot still a group of the highest importance and rarity, almost certainly originating from Waterlow proof or archive material, with some of these values missing from the great collection formed by Michael Medlicott.
