Description
Revenue: Queen Elizabeth II Unappropriated Die £1.2.6d value. Royal Mint Imperforate Proof of the £1.2.6d on sheet annotated NEW FISCAL STAMP £1.2.6. DESIGNED AND ENTIRELY HAND CUT BY H.A. RICHARDSON'. The proof is annotated 'PROOF FROM MATRIX' and dated 24.8.1965. From the volume presented to the Royal Mint Engraver H.A. Richardson on his retirement. Accompanied by a much-enlarged pencil essay on tracing paper for the £1.2.6d stamp, unsigned but most probably by H.A. Richardson, who designed and engraved the stamp, offered with imperforate proof sheet of 60 (10 x 6) in black on unwatermarked glazed wove paper, (some foxing and slight creasing and one stamp with a tear, otherwise fine), and lastly two passport pages with cut off corners illustrating the issued stamps appropriated for Diplomatic service. A unique and highly desirable group, showing the full journey from initial sketch to issued stamps.
