Description
Nigeria REVENUE/REVENUE 1916 DLR Keyplate wmk MCA 3d green and orange, the UNIQUE mint example with traces of o.g. (also showing major variety ‘Nick in Top right scroll’ from R 3/12!) Very badly defective, with heavy horizontal crease and with the lower two corners completely missing, the stamp ‘rebacked’ by hinging the half stamp which previously adjoined above to the reverse. An extraordinary item, being of just four known examples of this stamp in total, all of which all are badly defective - this far and away the most presentable despite its condition and the only example in unused condition. No examples at all were recorded at all until earlier this year, and it was only through the Crown Agent's records and the De La Rue archive that philatelists knew that this stamp had ever existed. A wonderful opportunity to acquire one of the rarest Keyplates stamps of the British Empire and a remarkable discovery, over a century after issue.
