1942 Document piece (188x92mm) bearing £150,000, £70,000 and £75,275 Gold, for an astonishing total franking of £295,275, the stamps printed on the 18th May, 26th May and 20th August respectively, each tied to piece by ‘STAMP DUTIES DEPT/ WELLINGTON’ cds, ‘DUTY PAID’ perfin, and ornate ‘CANTERBURY’ blind embossed cancellation. A truly incredible franking almost without precedent, which was produced in connection with the estate of Robert Euing McDougall, the governing director of Aulesbrook & Company Ltd who died in February 1942, leaving an estate worth over £560,000.
